Save money
Time to start 4 years ago

Oh my. It’s been slightly more than a year that I started working. Last year I told myself it was time to be a little selfish, time to buy all these CDs and books I wanted for so long, go out, buy an iPod, a digicam… well, you know, treat myself. Saving was supposed to start the next year.

Now, this next year has begun since a couple of months and my bank account still reaches rather low levels at the end of each month. I should really start saving now...

When my PhD is over, that’ll be in about 2 years, I want to be able to choose something I really want to do, not be pressurized into taking the first offer simply to pay the bills. I’d like to have some money on the side that allows me to take time choosing the right thing. Especially since I’m considering studying something else.

I also dream of long, long trips. Like going to Santiago di Compostela on foot (2-3 months), or travel around the world on ground and water…

So now, my new year resolution is save about 10% of my income. I don’t know if that’s enough, but that’ll be for starters. And I am going to make it a permanent order at my bank, so that the money will flow out before I have the opportunity to spend it… :-)

Make Firefox my default browser
Firefox is the best browser ever! 4 years ago

That’s about it. Forget all others. Firefox rulez. It’s rather fast, truly multiplatform, highly customisable, and a great number of extensions are available (and counting).

Not very stable yet, though (at least the Linux version) when dealing with external programs sucha as mplayer or acroread.
