I’m actually interested in making walkthroughs using Blender and the game engine.
...on the recommendation of my dentist, who recommended an interdental brush. I have some partial gum loss, which runs in my family and that I’ve probably continually aggravated with over-aggressive brushing.
The interdental brush (and end-tuft toothbrush) is awesome. I’m removing this from my list.
The class covers a little bit of many different dances: Quickstep, Waltz, Rock, Salsa, Chacha, Paso Doble. We’ll be finishing the year with Tango and Samba.
We don’t go very far beyond the basic steps with a couple of simple variations, but it’s quite nice to be able to get on the dance floor!
At a very non-traditional wedding, the happy couple decided to subvert the idea of the “white wedding” to include all the invitees—a beautiful and meaningful way to celebrate together.
Well, I’ve kept it up for about a hundred days, using two websites (FitDay and Sparkpeople).
FitDay is oriented towards good and detailed nutritional reports, and SparkPeople is oriented towards weight loss community and support. SparkPeople is a bit more useful for entering data, but FitDay’s food inventory seems to match my habits a bit better.
In general, I’ve learned quite a bit about the nutritional content of what I eat and portion sizes. It’s funny that forcing yourself to write things down makes you think twice about what you’re eating every day… but now I’m done.
In a very little voice… I’m not sure what happened, but after a week giving chin ups a try, my maximum number of pull ups went down. What the?
The only thing that I can think of is that I’ve been doing a lot of running recently… but I can’t see the link.
And, er, that’s three pull ups with good form, plus one wreck.
I switched to chin-ups (which are slightly easier) for a bit of variety. I do three sets to exhaustion…
I improved two pull-ups this week! :) It will happen.
I’m kind of embarrassed to post, given that I can do at most 4 (FOUR!) unassisted pull-ups. And only the first three have any decent form. I started off with (ahem) 2, and after a few weeks of effort, well, here I am.
Just wanted to share. I’m not out of shape by any means, just not particularly strong. I thought that my starting point might be encouraging to someone else stuck in the low, low, low single digits :)
Wow—I keep a little notepad with me to jot down what I’ve eaten, then I enter it into fitday (a popular, online food journal).
From their reports, I’ve learned that I’m low in zinc and vitamins K and D (tho’ it only takes into account vitamin D from food sources, so I’m probably OK there—I get plenty of sun!)
Surprisingly, my current habits are kind of low-calorie, but high-fat… I eat smaller portions of delicious, rich things blanaced by lots of raw, fresh vegetables and salads. I haven’t been modifying my diet yet, just keeping track of it.
In Canada (in my province), a personal directive is a legal document that appoints the person to take charge of your non-financial decisions (including health-care) in the case where one is no longer capable of making those decisions.
I’d like to get one made, and check to see if it is a valid document in France.
Got my organ donors card yesterday, signed it and am carrying it around. Told my family and all of my friends.
I mailed off the official form, and now they’re supposed to contact me to have my bone marrow type tested. It’s free in France, of course.
I had an extra form printed off, so I got a friend to register too! I should have printed off several!
I believe in taking advantage of charitable tax deductions. It takes a minor amount of money out of federal coffers and directs it where I personally feel there’s a need… Everybody wins!
But on the Kiva site, this is only useful for American contributors. Are there equivalents for international contributors?
(I helped fund two Kiva loans in eastern Europe. I’ll update again when there’s results).
I started keeping a food diary on fitday.com, which is pretty good (even if it can be pretty frustrating with its measurements—if you can do it in ounces, you should be able to do it in grams!)
I’m NOT looking to lose weight (far from it), and I’m not keen on keeping a food diary for the long term. I’ve been running quite a bit more than usual, and I’m trying to adequately fuel myself for it. This has always been a problem for me, since exercise tends to completely cut my appetite.
Plus, I’m kind of curious about the nutitional content of what I eat.
It took me a bit of time to find this, so I thought I’d share—in case anyone else from France is happening to look ;)

In fact, it appears that in France that your next-of-kin can make the decision for you, and the system assumes that you want to donate your organs if there isn’t any evidence to the contrary. You can register to refuse to donate, however.
Because I have no kin in France, I’m getting a donor card, and letting my friends and emergency contacts know.
...seems to be my criminal record from Canada. It depends who you talk to:
1) The embassy says that if I’m going back for Christmas, I should just drop into my local RCMP with my passport and have it printed off straight away.
2) The RCMP say as a non-resident of Canada, I need to go to the prefecture in France, have my fingerprints taken and certified, mail them back to Canada and wait 120 days for the results.
Lots of other paperwork is in the process of being collected…
OK, this goal has been too successful—I normally use plastic grocery bags as garbage bags as well, and I’ve used up my entire stock. It took a while to empty out under the sink ;)
It just seems more wasteful to go buy garbage bags (expressly for the single-use purpose of throwing away), so I’m going to check around and see if any of my neighbours have a stock of plastic grocery bags for my kitchen garbage.
Now that I think about it, I should check out urban apartment composting!
Starting the excellent Hal Higdon 18 week program this week ;)
This will be my second marathon… I’m just hoping to run all the way through this time! Now that I know what to expect, I think it’ll be easier to pace myself.
