Run a 5k in less than 30 minutes (read all 15 entries…)
Injury stalled my goal, so back to week 5 2 days ago

Well, I had to stay off my ankle for a few weeks, and now it feels great. I ran this morning, and did a 5k in under 35 minutes. I think I’m back about week 5 of the Runners World plan, so I’ll back up and jump in there. I’ll also do more stretching after my runs, and the physical therapist says I ran too hard, too soon, before doing any strength training on my legs. So I’m going to back off to 3x /week, and maybe try to get some strength training working. Want to put this up here, in case any other 40-somethings are trying this goal and getting frustrated. Shoot, I smoked for almost 30 years, I can take a few extra months to get my 5K in. No shame in that. Sort of amazed that I was able to run 1.5 miles straight, after a few weeks off!

Running on bum ankle 3 weeks ago

Well, that was stupid. I thought my ankle had gotten better, so I ran on it. Now it’s hurt again. I think I need to go to sports medicine doc. Anyway, the week off didn’t damp my cardio capacity – i ran two miles without stopping! Over 20 minutes, then a little bit of a walk.
Week 7 I guess, but I need to reset here and pick up again with the 4x/week runs, after a doctor tells me it’s okay.

Holding steady at -5 pounds 3 weeks ago

Still down 5 pounds-ish, even after Thanksgiving. Still trying to exercise a lot but I had to stop running so often because I hurt my ankle. Need to go find a sports doc to tell me whether I should run.
