Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Haven’t used the site in a while but I am keeping up with a lot of these goals! I got an A in the online course I took last semester (Spring) and have already registered for 2 more classes in the Fall!

Weekly Project

This is my project for the week of 2/27/12. By Sunday, we will have installed pulls on all our kitchen drawers. We moved in over 2 years ago, so it’s slightly overdue. I am scared to mess up my drawers, but life will be easier once they are installed, and the kitchen will get a bit of an updated look.



Make new friends

All the friends my husband and I had who we used to hang out with have moved away. These were our high school friends; the only ones we have ever known, really. I wish we could go out and find new friends but we just want a couple people to hang out with, play D&D and MTG, and a few other fun things. You don’t really go to a bar looking for roleplaying buddies LOL. In fact, most people into everything we’re into are probably homebodies just like us.

I have about $1300 in my emergency fund now. It has been hard to keep it there since my husband has been fired 3 times in the last 2 years and gone through 2 bouts of unemployment several months long due to illness. Hopefully I can continue building it up.

And I feel fine! I smoked 1 at a wedding a couple months ago, but it didn’t really do much for me and I haven’t had one since.

This is my new #1 goal

I am going to DC 2012. I have missed the past 2 years, and I miss my DC family and friends, and I miss the fun and vacation of Labor Day weekend that I have enjoyed so much over the years. It’s going to take a lot of money, time, and preparation, but there is pretty much nothing that can stop me from going. The end.

Getting worse

My husband has been sick and lost his job for being absent too often. I can tell the effect this stress is having on all my goals, but it is pretty obvious on this one when my fingers are all bloody from picking.

Adding exercise

This will be tough, but I’m doing good so far. Since Saturday I have been waking up at ass in the morning, doing my exercise, making breakfast, putting lunches together, taking a shower, getting dressed and doing my makeup (OK I did my makeup in the car while my husband was driving). Starting on the weekend actually seems to have made this easier. I will continue doing this every day, even weekends, because I know if I give myself a day off I will give myself another, and another, and so on.

Wow, it does not seem that long ago that I was puffing away, but then sometimes it feels like forever….

Saturday, Sunday, Monday and today I had a healthy breakfast after my workout. And now that I have an eating plan fully set out, this will be a much easier task to accomplish.

Finally doing it!

I exercised Saturday, Sunday, Monday AND this morning first thing when I woke up! I’m doing Turbo Jam, which is the only fun workout I’ve ever used that actually lives up to the hype. I have come to understand that I must do this first thing every morning, no exceptions, or I will lapse and stop. Maybe someday I will be disciplined enough to wait until the afternoon, but for now I will have to learn to be a morning person.
