I just returned from Europe and I have to say that speaking their language in France (even if just simple conversation) really has a positive effect on your experience there. The people appreciate it and it’s easier to make friends. My last night in Paris was spent at a local’s house party—I stayed up until 4 am and had to leave for the airport at 7:30. It was well worth it though.
I couldn’t communicate with them too clearly but you can tell they appreciated that I was trying. I’ve made countless French-speaking friends and communicate with several people who are helping me improve my French, and I their English. You should definitely learn another language, even if not French.
It’s a big world out there…
