So here are the countries I want to visit the most, in order of most important first.
1. Scotland
2. Italy
3. England
4. Ireland
5. France
6. Spain
7. Germany
I met a girl in a field study who took a bicycling trip through England. That sounds particularly badass. She stayed in a lot of hostels, which is cool. I have an intense hatred towards hotels.

... but I lack the everyday commitment.

I tried this year. I planted tomatoes (started inside), basil, peppers, mixed lettuce, peas and they all died off one by one. I started them from seeds, the tomatos were started indoors. The peppers were supposed to be started indoors but I didn’t and they never popped out of the ground. Lettuce seemed to grow very well and quickly until they abruptly died. The peas were slow and steady and lasted the longest but still died. The tomatoes were doing okay indoors but when I transplanted them from inside, they were kind of meak for a while then shrivelled up and died. Basil had a tiny tiny little green thing and then died about five minutes later.
I bought a pepper plant from the local walmart and it was doing fine until my dog decided it was tasty.
I know very little about gardening except what I read online when starting this. I definately need to read more. There is a guy who hosts Gardening By the Yard who has a book where instead of rows or mounds you make an above ground box with 2×8 in 3×3 grid. It looks like a promising method. Next year I will try that, with a gate so my dog doesn’t eat my vegetables. He must be the only dog in the world who likes all kinds of veggie. Only veggie he doesn’t like is dark green lettuce.
