Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Create a clay sculpture (read all 3 entries…)
I still have the clay, but

my husband surprised me with a wonderful birthday present – a Maltese Falcon, just like in the picture!
So I don’t need to ‘create a clay sculpture’ any more.
I still find that package of black clay in the drawer every once in a while, and I’m sure I’ll think of something else to make with it.

watch napolean dynamite (read all 2 entries…)
I did it again!

It was on TV the other day, so I watched it again. I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I realized that there is a point in the movie where the tide turns for our hero(es), and the music changes, and from then on, good things happen to the good guys and bad things happen to the bad guys… although even the bad guys are treated gently.
I highly recommend this movie.

Paint the stairs (read all 3 entries…)

I finished painting the stairs last night!

Thank you, thank you, please hold your applause. Yes, it looks wonderful: a real upgrade from plain wood stairs with the varnish sanded off.

Let me be modest and in the interest of full disclosure, and I hope this doesn’t disappoint anyone, my plan was to only paint the risers, not the whole stair. My final goal, actually, is to stencil a series of designs from a southwestern quilt that I made onto the risers, but I needed to have the background white (“Coffee Cream” is the name of the paint color) first.

Not to pile on, but I did this one day after finishing painting the living room walls & ceiling. What’s my motivation, you ask? Oh, just the family coming over for Thanksgiving. And besides, I’ve been meaning to do this for about 3 years. ( :

So my advice to you is, get going! The hardest part is picking up the paint brush; after that, it gets easier and it’s actually fun. Another piece of advice – have a little paintbrush that you might use to paint a picture (doesn’t have to be pro quality, a kid’s brush will do), to paint the little edges and corners. You can do a much neater job with a small brush.

Will post a picture as soon as I take one.
