Give more than I take
Untitled 8 months ago

I am a firm believer in karma, or something very close at least. While I cannot subscribe fully to the Hindu laws of dharma, I still feel that there is a sort of cosmic scale that needs to be kept in balance.

It seems that those that take more than they give do well in the short run, but the imbalance they create seems to drag them down in the end. Altruism seems to pay off more in the end, especially if one is not concerned with the gains from their generosity.

If more people strove to leave things better than they found them the world would become a much better place.

make the perfect cup of coffee

This is one of those lifelong goals; one that I get closer to each day. I believe to truly accomplish this goal I need to control every step of the process: hand selecting the right beans, home roasting them to perfection, using good water at the proper temperature, the right grind, the best brewing process, etc.

I believe brewing the best cup of coffee is an art and requires the same precision and attention to detail as the Japanese Tea Ceremony. I will strive to make each cup better than the last.

live deliberately
Untitled 8 months ago

Henry David Thoreau, Zen masters, and Krishna of the Bhagavad Gita all praise the practice living fully, consciously, and reverently in every moment. I want to be able to fully immerse myself in every moment and to do even the most mundane activities with full attention and involvement. I want my mind to wander less and focus fully on the present moment. I hope to be able to THINK less and BE more.
