It took me a LONG time, but about a year ago I finally let go and realized that my mom is just another human being fumbling her way through the world, just like me. She made bad decisions, yes, and I paid the price for her choices more times than I care to talk about. But once I fully realized and accepted that she was only human and not some omnipotent being that should’ve known all, my perspective changed, and my anger toward the world diminished considerably. I’m a much more relaxed person these days, and I find that it’s becoming easier for me to accept and forgive my own faults and mistakes (instead of beating myself senseless over them). Forgiving your parents is not easy, but it’s a very worthwhile endeavor.
...there you are. No matter how much you think that a nice change of scenery will make your life better, you’re still the same person with the same issues no matter what the view is outside your front door!
