The 1991 International Special Olympics were in Minneapolis. I was a volunteer at table tennis. The fellow that volunteered to run the tournement was a local table tennis organiser. The people that acted as the table referees and with the matches were all local table tennis players. We also had quite a few people involved who were executives in the US table tennis association. We had about 200 athletes from 26 different countries. There were even coaching clinics and exibition matches. After that, the people that volunteered helped get started a good Minnesota team.

Try to get involved with a particular sport

I was a volunteer at the table tennis venue in Atlanta. I had volunteered with state tournements and knew the organizing people. I had experience and they wanted people involved with the national sport as the volunteers on the playing floor. There were plenty of other jobs though. If you are a medical professional, a translator, a broadcaster, crime enforcement, or security. You also mostly have to be there for the whole 3 weeks too.

I was a volunteer in Atlanta at the table tennis venue. It was fun because your ID let you into the other sports held in our building. It would probably be stricter now days, but seeing everything up close is different then in the stands.
