i was on my way to the airport in Kathmandu to meet some friends arriving on a flight from Lhasa, Tibet. it was during the daylight hours – mid afternoon. it was a warm but cloudy day. suddenly noticed a very distinct change in the air (not easy to describe) and a sort of eerie feeling, a gust of wind just blowing things around, then birds appearing from nowhere, darting about anxiously, then the sky turned darker, and kept on going until it was pretty much pitch black. then it slowly reversed and we were at the airport and our friends arrived safely but they also experienced wierd things up in the sky (plane). this was the second time I vividly remember experiencing a total solar eclipse. the first time was in India while at boarding school. it was a weekend afternoon on a warm and bright, sunny day. they made sure we were all indoors and instructed us not to look directly at the sun. when we tried to look out the window it was hard to even glance towards the sun. so we just played indoors and that was that.
