I love Fellini. I love foreign film. However, I don’t have any grasp on the classics of that genre. American cinema has become so blaise, that I think this is the best direction to go. I have La Strada here at the house, but can’t manage to get it into the DVD player. That should change soon.

I have quite a few philosophic ideas that revolve around the nature of reality. One of the methods by which we come to our reality is perception, which is controlled completely (and independently of consciousness-what I mean is that you can not actively choose what you want to see or hear or what senation you want to feel, and if you can, I’d be interested to hear about it) by our brain. So I would like to know more about how our brain actually works, from a scientific point of view. What is it that exactly happens when light hits the eye, from the time it is processed by the “mind.” When you see something and have a memory, what is exactly going on in your brain. How does that happen? What parts of the brain are being utilized and what is the system by which they communicate with one another? How does stress work? Stress is an involuntary physiological condition that stems from particular emotional or “mind” states. For instance, one can develop knots in their back or even ulcers in their stomach because of mind states are totally unconscious. How does this happen? How does the stomach go about releasing excess acid because you “feel bad” when you might not even know you feel bad? While these are very general questions, I am looking for extremely specific answers.
This goes hand in hand with my one about meeting interesting people. I my fits of being totally anti-social. When I feel overwhelmed, or when things don’t go well, or if I’m particularly caught up in a feeling of inspiration, I ignore everyone I know. I won’t answer my phone or emails. I won’t call anyone. I basically cut out all human interaction, even though I often feel very alone. Needless to say, it puts some stress on any relationship I have.
I’m not completely desiring to end my anti-social tendencies. I recongize that I have a strong need for alone time. I would like to mediate them more, and continue to build relationships with people I respect, so that I ultimately don’t end up feeling so all alone.
