I bought a hanging basket of calibrocha (sp?), plus two massive terracotta pots which I filled with red geraniums, white alyssum and some plants with navy-blue flowers which I forget the name of. It gave the garden a much-needed injection of colour and it looks very pretty.

Bought a sofa bed from good old Freedom Furniture. It’s cool, kinda retro-looking and will fit perfectly in our office. It’s being delivered tomorrow, yay!

And it was pretty awesome.

Okay, so this is just not happening right now. BUT I am going on a road trip soon, and plan to drive a couple of hours on the way to my destination and back. And when I return to Sydney, I WILL book myself some driving lessons!

I was given a Bokashi composting bin a few weeks ago! It sits in my kitchen and we feed it all our vegie scraps. Today we got three cups of liquid fertiliser from it, which J diluted with water, then fed our plants with it!

Did some volunteering gardening with a group of people last Monday. We weeded and mulched an old lady’s garden. I had a great time!

I have to be realistic – this is not going to happen any time soon. :(

I’m reading Look Me In The Eye by John Elder Robison, Augusten Burroughs older brother. It’s a good read, but pretty lengthy and there’s a lot of techno/boy stuff in it. It’s about growing up with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, at a time when the diagnosis didn’t exist. I’ve been reading it for a few weeks now but I’m aiming to finish it by this day next week. I have a heap of other books piled up ready to go after this one.

I’ve decided I’m going to do this for my 35th birthday in a couple of months. There’s a new outdoor store that’s offered to loan me all the gear I need (tent, backpacks etc) as I’m writing a story about the experience. Yay, so exciting!

So I didn’t run a 5km, I ran a 9km. Suck on that, bitches!

My brother and I signed up for the Bridge Run, which is a 9k. Eep! I am starting group training sessions with a personal trainer on Tuesday. Should be good!

I have been struggling to get rid of my credit card debt for years. Each time I make an inroad, I buy another dress/concert ticket/plant ticket. So I’ve cut it up!

I really want a big old recycled oak table and some antique-style chairs, but until I can afford them, I have a temporary set that works really well. It consists of a dining table I’ve had for years and some funky mismatched chairs, some of which I picked up for $10 at the farmer’s markets. It looks cool and it’s nice to be able to have friends for dinner again!

I cleared out and planted up the verge outside my house. So far there’s some cineraria, succulents and shrubs in there. There’s also some daffodil bulbs dug into the ground which will pop up in the next few months. It’s a struggle to keep it going as people have stolen plants and dumped rubbish in there but my gardening idol, Jerry Coleby-Williams, told me to persist as it’s the guerrilla gardeners best defence. It seems to be working!

On another, longer detox. I am off booze and eating lots of healthy, fresh organic food. I started yesterday and am feeling great already. It’s amazing the difference just one day of eating consciously can make. Here’s what I had:
Breakfast: Cup tea, mandarin, kiwi fruit.
Lunch: Mixed salad of tuna, organic chick peas, tomato, cucumber and feta.
Dinner: Green salad, homemade shepherd’s pie with lots of vegies.
It’s not a hugely strict detox as I had some coffee and chocolate yesterday but the main focus for me is not drinking alcohol and eating as much organic food as I can.

Clean bill of health, everything normal. Good to know. :)

I bought some great pots at Bunnings and potted up all the large plants in my backyard (a yucca, two frangis and a couple of palms). They were all in nasty plastic pots before and look great now!

I bought a girlfriend for my betta fish, Paulie. Her name is Paola Fish (after the Spanish newsreader in the UK comedy Fast Show). So far they seem to be getting along ok.

I have to admit defeat on this one. I just didn’t have enough time to finish the book. There’s another major book comp coming up in September so I’m going to aim for that one instead.

Yay, I broke the 30,000 barrier! I’ve been working on the novel all day and picked up some great tips from the Nanowrimo forums. I’m well past the halfway point now.
