I maintain a 150 pound weight loss give or take 10 pounds. When I originally started, my stated motivation was to give my growing children a positive role model. As they grew I shifted my motivation and learned I was motivated by new awareness that without Health I could not serve all others in the world fully. Best advice to share is I keep a vision in my head of my ideal self. This picture is like the box cover when doing a jigsaw puzzle. It lets you know what the finished puzzle looks like as you put the pieces together. I use this technique in reaching all my goals. At first could not see me thinner, had such a long road to travel. I picked a famous person, put my head on their body and walked around with that picture in my mind. EACH time I make a food choice I ask myself would the famous person eat this? I then make a decision. Some days I do better than others. In order to answer the questions I had to get new knowledge of food choices and food values. I also began to cook more to control the ingredients of what I ate. The two biggest sensitivities I have are sugar and salt. Today I use some, in moderation and with sugar, have changed the types of sugar I use when cooking. I also have a moderate exercise component that I incorporate each day. I try to do different things that I enjoy and can do without strain. I reward myself occasionally with special better choice foods that are good for the endorphins. Quality Dark Chocolate and an occasional glass of Fine Red Wine are two examples. I also allow myself beautiful things I like to wear. An example is when I took off the first chunk of weight and had more to loose, spending a lot on clothes did not make sense to me. The first purchase I made was a very expensive pair of shoes, something I had not allowed myself before. I bought few and inexpensive new clothes as I moved down in size. I did not hold onto the clothes that no longer fit. I quickly gave away what did not fit me knowing I would never need them again. The perfect people to wear them showed up each time or I would donate and sometimes buy at the Goodwill. Great clothes, low prices. Good cause. I was always patient and kind with myself and each day expressed appreciation verbally and by the way I cared for myself. The saying is “The Journey of a Thousand Miles Starts with The First Step.” Nike got it right when it comes to goals…”Just do it”.
