Happy Birthday, Sitio!
The past four weeks have been something of a whirlwind. My husband moved out of our house; I accepted and then rejected a new job that would have required me to travel almost constantly for the next six to nine months, leaving my daughter with family and friends at a time when her life is already a bit topsy-turvy; and I’ve decided to get started on working toward my CPA certificate—with a promise of a partnership at a small but successful local firm when I am done. When my husband moved out, he took the Internet account with him, which I have not yet successfully replaced. The broadband account for which I signed up opened my computer to all sorts of nasty spyware, which my spyware software found AFTER it had already been installed. I spent four hours the other night finding and deleting all the crap. I felt like I had taken a walk through a virtual red light district. Blech.
So I’m again disconnected from the WWW, and am instead spending my evenings talking with my daughter and helping her with homework, reading books, and practicing the guitar. I’ll be back soon, but need to spend the next few weeks experimenting with my new life.
Two more saved before I completed the goal. One on August 31, as I was rushing to work-late. But it was cold and raining, and he was doomed by the chill that made him too cold to move. Then yesterday I saved a baby snapping turtle-not an Eastern box turtle but still a worthy species. This was the first snapping turtle I’ve actually seen up close, and they are absolutely prehistoric. Ridges running down the spine and a vicious looking beak, which opened to hiss when I picked the turtle up to reveal a very fleshy pink mouth.
So this goal is going to become a way of life, even though I will mark it as “completed.”
