New max for freeweights! 15 months ago

So yesterday I decided to max out and see what kind of weight I could put into the air. I normally do sets of 185, so I stretched out, found a spotter, put 205 on the bar, and lifted it with no problems. I went up to 225 (2 plates! W00T!), and lifted it with only a little difficulty. I went up to 245, and though it was really difficult and slow, I managed to get it up unassisted!

I looked around and noticed that there were 2×2.5 lb weights lying there unused, so I added them on and gave it another go. I was too worn out to get the bar up, so my spotter had to assist me, but I’m pretty sure I could have gotten it up if I had been fresher.

So here we are – my personal best for freeweight benchpress is 245 lbs. (I have lifted 260 lbs on nautilus, but that’s always easier since you don’t have to balance the bar and use stabilizer muscles).

Only 155 pounds to go!!!

Hello Pimsleur 16 months ago

I have completed 38 lessons of Pimsleur German (each lesson is 20-30 minutes long), and my spoken German is coming along well. I’m also reading a wikipedia article in German and Spanish several times a week.

If you can’t afford Pimsleur, scour used bookstores, or just visit your local library. Their courses are awesome and definitely worth the price.

DC 10-miler 17 months ago

I didn’t train for this one at all, so my time was way worse than I wanted it to be. I crossed the finish line in an hour and a half without stopping once! I wasn’t proud of the time, but that was the longest I have ever run for, and I did it without having run a step in a few months. Now to shave off a half hour or so!
