So far I’m in the middle of chapter 8 of Learning Perl 4th edition. Still can’t figure out a good reason why I started messing around with perl. Maybe I just don’t want my thinking to get molded to a particular language. The whole thing seems appropriate only for easier UNIX scripting or text handling. Ruby and Python already have all of perl’s features for those tasks (as far as I can tell). Plus I can imagine the pain one must go thru to represent more complex data structures. Maybe that’s exagarated but I’m sure it’s far easier to do it in ruby and python. Anyway advanced knowledge of regular expressions is something I’m really missing and this book looks promising in that aspect.

I’ve read the first part of Agile Web Development With Rails some time ago. But can’t find a time to start working on a project, although I have some ideas. It’s highly unlikely that I will do so in the next month or more. Sux, because like all other platforms ruby on rails is something you can learn well only by working on some real-world applications. Luckily I’m still playing around with ruby alot.
