read the divine comedy

I’ve read the Inferno probably 6 times, but always get tired of reading poetry prior to Purgatory.

stop using plastic bags (read all 2 entries…)
All but quit 17 months ago

I’ve got some canvas bags that my wife and I use when we grocery shop. Virtually everywhere else we just ask for no bags when we buy anything. I figure if I can get it to the counter without a bag, I can get home without one.

grow some of my own food
Cherry Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Hot Peppers, Broccoli 17 months ago

It’s pretty satisfying eating food from your own garden. I’ve got a pumpkin vine, too, but I doubt I’ll be eating from that, I just hope I can carve my own pumpkin this October.

2007/2008 New Years Trip 17 months ago

It was crowded, but still christmasy and fun. Highly recommended.

read 10 books this summer
My 10 Books for Summer 2007 2 years ago

1) Lamb by Christopher Moore
2) Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut
3) My Haunted House by Angie Sage
4) Bluebeard by Kurt Vonnegut
5) The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore
6) The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
7) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling
8) Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
9) Witch’s Business by Diana Wynne Jones
10) Heroes Reborn: Captain America by Rob Liefeld

I actually read more than this, but I didn’t want to count the stuff that was really short or seemed too easy. The Captain America maybe shouldn’t count, but it well over 300 pages and with all the other stuff I read, I figured I basically hit my goal.

stop using plastic bags (read all 2 entries…)

One trick for not using plastic bags:

If I can get my items to the counter without a basket, then I can get them home without a bag. That’s my rule of thumb for asking to not have my items sacked.

finish my novel
Untitled 2 years ago

Honestly, I could just write five or ten pages and have it over and done with. I can sit and edit it all day, but I can’t seem to make myself write the ending. Hopefully, I’ll finish it soon.

complete my entry year teaching requirements
Untitled 2 years ago

I only say not worth doing, because they seem pretty pointless. You’ve got to do them though if you want to keep being a teacher.

write the syllabus for next semester
Untitled 2 years ago

I didn’t write a syllabus for the second semester. I guess I was lazy.

finish Final Fantasy X
Phew... 2 years ago

92 hours. There was still a lot more I could have done in the game (Omega Weapon, 4 ultimate weapons, fine-tuning armor customization, Blitzball tournaments, etc.) but I’m ready to move on to other games.

One of my students told me he’s put over 250 hours into that game. I can’t do it. I have a hard time making myself do all of the side quests, they’re fun, but usually a lot harder than beating the boss. Anyway, it was worth it.

marry my girlfriend
$237, 5 guests, 1 hobbit officiant 3 years ago

Marrying my girlfriend? Priceless!

Seriously, the entire ceremony was decided on, planned and arranged in the span of 4 hours, then executed 3 days later.

Marriage License – $50
Officiant’s fee – $50
My wedding band – $69
Her wedding band – $68

Clothes owned previously. Transportation and cake provided by my parents. Chapel was the hobbit’s living room. Reception at my brother’s house, who also provided the champagne and fresh caught fish.
