Did not improve job prospects, did not feel comfortable or academically supported in the transition from undergraduate to graduate student, but this could be more a symptom of my university than the experience itself. I suppose I was expecting more freedom and research choice, which is what I found in my PhD programme. In hindsight perhaps I would have taken a year off and then applied to a doctoral programme straight away, as it was what I knew I wanted to do anyway. The Master’s felt like a year of limbo.

Run two marathons, planning another next spring

Love the atmosphere and community spirit of the race. Also I love to travel and run in a new city – have done Paris and Berlin so far, planning for Edinburgh next spring and possibly the Midnight Summer Marathon in Norway in the summer. You don’t need to be impossibly fit to run a marathon, just put in the training and preparation! It’s definitely an accomplishment that you will feel good about for life.
