Feel sleepy and a bit sore, but happy to be able to enjoy the day of positivity!
Like most Mondays, the weather was fabulous today. But this time, it was an extension of the past three or four days of incredibly beautiful conditions.
Also, my lower back is continuing to feel much better these days. Quite a relief from being in pain all the time!
According to the PST 43T server, it is not July 5th yet, but it is already past midnight in my time zone, EST.
I enjoyed taking part in wishing a friend a happy 60th yesterday in an outside garden party. Couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day, too. Lots of people, food and fun! Indeed, P was surprised and I could tell that she was tickled that her husband set this event up.
Fifteen seconds ago, I had 4 cheers to give out, then I went to cheer joie de vivre and it said, “you have used up all your cheers for today…” or something like that. BUSTED Cheer Goblin! sigh…
Woke up around 6:45am this morning and my back felt really good, with almost no muscle tightness. I know I have to be careful with it, but this is the best I have felt in weeks!
This hasn’t been a stellar weekend like last weekend. It was rainy yesterday and it feels like rain again today. Well, we have to take what we get on these precious weekends. ;)
My BH received a call last night from the vet, letting us know that Buster’s tests came back all the markers were negative. He’s ok! He’s been behaving normally since Saturday and his appetite is back, too. No health problems that would have been identified by the urine and blood samples. Great news!
Today, a friend, Neal, asked me to go out for lunch at a nice restaurant near work. The food was excellent and we had a great time chatting.
This morning, around 11:45am, our Buster had a seizure, for about five minutes. As far as we know, this was his first one ever.
He was splayed out on the floor in the back hall, shaking and frothing at the mouth and he seemed to have no control over his hindquarters. He tried several times to get up, but he couldn’t do so. We comforted him as best as we could and finally, it was over. Buster didn’t lose control of his bowel movements and he then managed to get himself up, but he was quite wobbly for a couple of minutes. I think the experience scared him quite a bit.
We called the vet and made an appointment for him for 1pm and we’ve been back now for several hours. Buster was happy to leave the animal hospital. The vet who he knows examined him carefully, his heart is good and his temperature is normal. They took blood and urine samples and we’ll get the results late next week. We’re going to stay home today and keep an eye on our friend Buster. He seems to be back to normal, except that he’s keeping very close to mommy.
The vet said that it could be several things, so he didn’t want to speculate. He didn’t think it was epilepsy, because that often manifests itself before age 7 in dogs. Buster turned 9 this past March. When we get the results of the tests, we will know more and be able to narrow it down.
During the examination, the doc noticed that one of Buster’s teeth was broken. We will need to take care of that next week sometime. He doesn’t seem to be in pain from it, although they will want to take x-rays, in case there is infection present.
Right after the seizure, we tried to offer Buster some toast with a bit of honey on it, in case his blood sugar was low, but he wouldn’t take it. (So we knew something was wrong!)
So far this afternoon, Buster seems to be doing ok. We don’t know what the next few weeks will bring us, though.
I phoned Adam at 1:30pm this afternoon, to find out how things are going for him as he prepares for his Sunday downhill mountain biking race at Mont Ste-Anne Québec. It’s supposed to be a world class facility. I’ve never been there myself. This morning, he had walked the course and he and his friend, V, were just about to go up the mountain on the ski lift with their bikes to begin practising the course in earnest for their race on Sunday. Adam is in the age 20-29 group, Elite class. The best he has ever finished is 2nd place, at the Québec Cup two years ago. The competition in these races is very fierce, so it is quite an accomplishment to finish on the podium!
Adam has about six biking chums with him this weekend. I know he will have a great time.
An avid golfer was out golfing with two friends and his wife one day, when they came across a very unusual golf hole. right beside the fairway was a red barn and all of the golfers had left their first shot lying behind the barn, in the way of their approach to the green!
Well, the man’s two friends tried to shoot over the barn and both of them put their ball in the woods. Then his wife also mishit her second shot by trying to go around the barn. The man noticed that the barn door was open and there was another door open at the other end of the barn, so that he had a clear shot to the green, if he would shoot his ball right through the barn from front to back! Striking his ball carefully, the man’s ball unfortunately rang right off the door and rebounded very quickly and struck his wife in her forehead, killing her instantly. A terrible tragedy.
Many years later, the man had remarried and he was out playing golf at the same course with his friends and his new wife and they came across the same golf hole. Sure enough, the man pulled his tee shot in behind the barn and both doors to the barn were open, as they were those many years ago on the day of his wife’s tragic death.
The man surveyed the situation and started to line up his next shot to go through the barn and one of his friends turned to him and exclaimed excitedly, “Charlie, are you sure you want to do that? Remember what happened last time?” The man thought carefully and stated, “Yes, I remember it very well. Last time I played this hole, I got an eight…”
Our choir directors, B & L, are retiring at the end of this month, after almost 20 years of leading our congregation in music and music development. It is starting to sink in and won’t be the same afterwards. Their musical leadership has been fabulous over the years.
An interim replacement has been found, who will start near the end of August. After a year, a permanent director will be hired. If we like the interim leader, she will be free to apply for the permanent post.
Hope that you had an extraordinary day celebrating your birthday, including well wishes from near and far!
