Towards this goal, I shut down my business that was floundering and got a job. The job allowed me to pay off big chunks of debt and I was doing great – until I got laid off. I managed to not use credit cards while I was unemployed, and 8 months later, found another job making even more money. During that time, I paid $800 per month towards the debts, reducing them all from around $12,000 down to $8,000. And got laid off again when that company tanked. I’ve been out of work now 6 months and am still making more than the minimum payments on them but just barely. My goal is to NOT use the credit cards if i can help it – and since I saved $5k during the time I had a job, I have been skimming that fund for things unemployment won’t cover. I’m hoping I get a job soon because it won’t be easy when unemployment runs out, not to turn to the credit cards. But one thing I did is reduce my credit limits so that i can’t get more out of them even if I need them.
Its hard to get out of debt when you keep getting laid off but I have such an incredible skill set that I’m hoping I can get a job that exceeds my monthly budget SOON and get back at it!

It is not unusual now for me to walk 3-4 miles each time I go out. Its not easy – sometimes I walk around in circles in the city to make up time, and I think that I will have a harder time come winter – but walking is very comfortable to me now and I think walking 6-8 miles will be something i can continue doing each week. In fact, I’m irritable if I don’t!

I’ve always been a writer and poet, but wanted to learn how to write lyrics. It seemed like magic to me. But the magic is really in the music… and I still don’t know if I will ever know how to do that. But now I can say I’ve written lyrics. A friend of mine, who is a singer/songwriter and guitar virtuouso, heard my goal and gave me some instructions and guidance… and now one of the lyrics I’ve written are in production for an actual song he’s writing and recording. I can’t wait to hear it… and write more. He’s right though… if you can write and write poetically and rhyme a little and have some creative thoughts… its really just a matter of structure, and then finding someone to build a song around it.
