i ran for 20 minutes on monday! no pain during the run, though some soreness in my injury-area an hour or so later. still, it’s progress. excited to continue to build the momentum.
still doing my PT exercises, trying to strengthen that darn left side! yoga’s helping with the range of motion.

but i don’t want to check this goal off yet. having it listed as goal keeps me motivated.

hm. i really enjoyed the premise and the writing, but the acting really left something to be desired. not a favorite, but i’m glad i watched it.

i’ve been doing my exercises, yoga, and stretching. things are progressing. every other day i’m permitted to run (very briefly) or use the elliptical machine. today, i can run for 10 minutes. i know! it seems like nothing, but to me it’s huge! PT tomorrow to check on my progress. the left leg is slowly getting stronger. little by little . . . i think i’ll be running again in a month!

so i got a new pair of sneakers, and i can already tell the difference in my gait—even just walking in them! apparently, going to a store like fleet feet, where they videotape you running and make a recommendation about what type of shoe you should wear IS NOT SUFFICIENT. ask your doctor! fleet feet told me TWICE to buy the wrong type of shoe, and i was wearing it and aggravating my injury even more.
did a super basic yoga class last night for people recovering from injuries. it’s not as much fun as “regular” yoga, but it felt good. it also made me realize how terribly weak my left side is, which is scary.
had my second PT appointment at the new place and it continues to prove a great decision. my PT is great, a nice guy who understands the mind of someone who loves to run. i got some basic exercises to do to start to strengthen my side (just basic leg lifts and such), and i’m excited to (finally) start the healing process!

went to my PT this morning. it is NOT a nerve problem, NOT a joint problem! muscle problem! i’ve got to cut back on the cardio for a few weeks, buy new running shoes, and heal this stubborn injury, but if i am VERY CAREFUL, i am encouraged to RETURN TO YOGA!!!! yay! makes the easing up on the cardio more palatable for sure! was misdiagnosed twice, and this guy really hit the nail on the head, and i like him. so anyway, i am feeling heartened. even though the injury has been repeatedly aggravated, muscle is much easier to heal than nerve/joint problems!!
hip hip hurrah!

went to the doctor today . . . apparently, i have a sacroiliac joint problem. the initial injury was BOTH a hamstring and si joint issue. the hamstring healed, and the si joint didn’t. i got a referral for pt at a place that specializes in back injuries. it’s still sore, it’s still a beautiful day and no running, but i know what-exactly-it is and am on the road to fixing it. better than i was yesterday. until i’m feeling better, no more running, no more yoga. boo. but i’m sure it will be worth it in the end.
my pt is on monday morning. here’s hoping!

it was so great to see my brother—i do think we have an incredible bond, we just live too far away to remember it all the time. next mission: have at least weekly email/phone contact.

just wonderful. funny, wistful . . . as skeptical as allen is of monogamy, he’s damn sentimental about it. just a beautiful film. i liked this one 10x better than “manhattan.”

so i sustained some kind of weird nerve injury waaaay back in april. i could not run, and was going to PT for treatment. it got better. i started running again. then it aggrivated. repeat cycle, repeat cycle. it’s a painful, frustrating, heartbreaking cycle. i’m on a downturn again, only able to cycle or swim, with occasional elliptical training, if i’m not too sore. a doctor’s appointment next week. what i wouldn’t give for a long run! even on a treadmill, anything!!!
still, it’s good to know i’m not alone in this.

i’ve been really self-conscious at the gym ever since i was injured. i can’t run for a while, and have to use the bike for my cardio. not as satisfying at all. for some reason, i think about what other people must think of me. i’m working really hard at contextualizing the whole situation and trying to just let go of what people (may or may not) think. breathing.

i liked it, but the characters and story really didn’t affect me like “c&m” or “h&w”. but the music, the cinematography, the mood . . . that was exquisite. next up? “stardust memories.”

biked the goal 3x this week. all things allowing, i should be able to bike at least twice next week, though hopefully three times (all depends on a meeting).

i decided i want to make some curtains—thank goodness for 7th grade home economics! i remember how to at least use a sewing machine! i’m trying to borrow one first, try it out, and see if it’s worth keeping (if i’ll use it). i hope to get my (borrowed) machine in october.

spent 45 minutes on the phone with my brother last night—had a great conversation and started planning out details of his visit next weekend. really had a wonderful time talking with him.

picking it up from the library tomorrow. next? “stardust memories.” i love (with only the slightest exception) all his movies i’ve seen, but have little hope that they will affect me as profoundly as “husbands and wives” or “crimes and misdemeanors.” seriously, does film get any better?

got her from a shelter (animal control, actually) almost exactly four years ago. she was but a wee kitten, and has now grown into a cat with-ahem-attitude. love her.
