I still have trouble forcing myself to do a weekly review, but I found the book very helpful and I use the method to track my tasks, projects, and “someday/maybe” lists. It works. The more time I put into it, the better it works. I use Tracks (the nice free hosted version over at http://tracks.tra.in) to keep track of next actions and just print a new list about once a week. I carry that around in my pocket, with a pen clipped to it, and that’s all I need for entering new next actions and crossing off old ones.
One hard things for me was to stop thinking of “projects” as big, nebulous life-enhancing goals and start thinking of them as simply collections of next actions pointing toward a specific, quantifiable goal. For big, nebulous goals, I created a “context” in Tracks called “Areas of Focus” (which is mentioned in the GTD book). I also have a “someday/maybe” context that isn’t displayed by default. I don’t need to carry that around with me every day. When I need to consult it, I can just flip over to that context in Tracks and, if I like, print it out.
