I’m off to a good start. 2751 words as of five minutes ago. I might do some more later tonight after homework. It’s always good to bulk up on word count in those wonderful glistening first days when it still feels doable.

Oh, and all the people noticing the site moving at snail-like velocity… it does that. Just concentrate on writing for the first few days or the first week, and then start trying to get onto the site more once it’s settled down. This year they are having more problems than usual, but still, it should settle eventually. Don’t worry.

JUST WRITE! YOU’LL LOVE IT! NaNo is the ultimate in writing experiences. I’m absolutely thrilled for this year, notwithstanding my bajillion other commitments. It’s always worth the lack of sleep.

Organic, healthy food can be great. Whole Foods is your friend, if you can afford it.

It just makes eating feel good, instead of naughty. Definitely a life change for the good.

write a novel
Just Do It 2 years ago

...Listen to Nike on this one, and simply do it. You’ll never finish it if you never start. That’s what has helped me- just beginning, getting something down. Then you can always add to it.

The best way to get started, in my opinion, is to watch yourself- when you have one of those thoughts that make you go, “Wow. That’s really interesting” stop for a moment, and write it down. I personally often hear conversations between characters in my head, and if I have the time, I just sit down and type it all out until the inspiration runs dry.

Then you have something to work with. Reread over what you wrote before, and add to it. Run it over in your head. Try to figure out the rest of it. Start with a scene, a conversation, a character, a conflict, a setting, a time, anything, and build up from there.

Anyone can write a novel. Make an effort, and be one of the few who actually DO.
