Yesterday I swore in as a true blue Peace Corps Volunteer. Training bit pretty bad at times, but they say that’s the worst part. I’m still happy I’m here and excited/nervous to get started teaching. Peace Corps is definitely not for everyone, but if you’re committed, intelligent, flexible, patient, open-minded, caring, at least a little outgoing, and hard-working, you can probably do this too. The best advice I’ve gotten so far is that you need to have your personal reasons for joining Peace Corps because at times, your projects will be going nowhere and you’re stressed and unhappy and you need to have a reason to stay beyond the work. I have several personal projects I want to work on, but more importantly, I would not want to leave this group of people for anything in the world right now.

I’m less than a week away from leaving for DC & just over a week till we leave for Nicaragua. I’ve taken over my parents’ living room with all my crap and I just got my power of attorney notarized, so things are moving along fairly smoothly. I’m definitely excited and nervous & worried, but I also feel so ready for this. Let’s see what I have to say about it in a couple months :)
Ok, invitation #2 arrived on Monday for English Teacher/Trainer in Nicaragua, amazingly leaving on the same day Bolivia was supposed to: May 5th. I’m still disappointed about Bolivia which makes it hard to be super excited about my new invitation but I feel lucky to still be going to Latin America & leaving at the same time. I’m nervous about teaching because the classes are huge (50 high schoolers is a lot!) but I’ve taught before & that’s what I planned to do if not Peace Corps so it makes sense. I accepted this morning so I’m back working on getting out of town.
