This goal kind of goes along with my century ride. I am riding a century ride to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (they invest in cancer research, and provide help for patients and their families), and I am walking to raise money for AccountAbility Minnesota (they help disadvantaged people with their taxes, to get them the refund that they deserve and need).

I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing. Now that I’m in my “year off” before med school, I feel like I should get in better touch with my creative side. I’ve been doing a fair amount of reading, and I’m writing random things. So far, nothing very long. For example, I’m writing about my goals on here. :)

My interests in literature are pretty broad. In the past 6 months, I’ve read Collapse by Jared Diamond (of Guns, Germs & Steel fame – he’s an evolutionary biologist who writes on political and historical issues), The Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling, and Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card (my first Sci-Fi in a long time, and a great book). I’m working on the sequel to Ender’s Game, Speaker for the Dead.
