This is impossible. Internships are cutthroat; experience is just another faraway concept, one that belongs in a dreamland. I don’t know what I’m doing or where I belong. SO WHERE DOES THIS LEAVE ME? I can feel myself backing into a corner/digging myself into a corner/receding deep into myself/do you get the picture?

Writing for National Geographic has been my dream since I was 14. I tucked it into my back pocket for a while, though, after people started questioning whether or not I was cut out for the work, whether I could deal with all the action and deadlines and pressure. I wasn’t sure either. I mean, I was an insecure 14-year-old at the time. How was I supposed to answer all their questions? How was I supposed to know whether or not this was “RIGHT FOR ME”? But I want this, I know that much. So… where do I start? I’m at Cornell University. No journalism major. There’s communications. But it’s no big deal. But that’s where I’m starting. Eventually it all comes down to experience, right?
