I have donated twice more since then. Next thing will be to get on the list for platelet and plasma donation. That is something that can be done on a more often basis than whole blood donation. Cancer patients often need platelets, and burn victims often need plasma. And those are not able to keep stored and stocked up, so they need ready volunteers for when there is a need.

I joined the registry when they had a free on-line drive. I haven’t heard anything more, other than getting a donor card in the mail. If I turned up to be a match for someone, I would totally donate my marrow. I know of many kids who have gone through, or are about to go through bone marrow transplant.
I wanted to donate blood, after my youngest was diagnosed with leukemia, and as part of her treatment, recieved numerous blood and platelet transfusions. I finally did this in Feb.07. Now I am committed to donating as often as I can. This is my way to say thanks for those who helped save her life, and to know that I am helping save others.
