This must be a common problem for list-makers: my goals are too big. Nothing wrong with ambitious goals, but I need to find some little, short-term ones too. As it is, I end each day with, “I haven’t accomplished anything.”

How I did it: The trip was expensive, but still a fraction of the retail cost. It was an expedition to the Magpie River in eastern Canada not far from Newfoundland. Sadly, the river is now dammed. How I did it: For the past bunch of years I've been cycling through the same routine: take a class, get a little better at Spanish, and then forget almost everything. I don't know how many times I've done that. The best learning experience, of course, has been when I've studied in a Spanish-speaking country and had to communicate in Spanish for almost everything.
