When I was younger, I watched some really brilliant men in the industry I worked with retire. And I thought about what a shame it was that these guys couldn’t go to a College somewhere and teach about all of the things they had learned.
Now as I approach retirement (quite a ways off, but still) I think about that. I would really like to get a job teaching somewhere that didn’t have silly rules about teaching degrees. Somewhere that I could use my 25 years of experience to help the next generation.
I could teach math, and actually answer the questions like “Why do we have to know this?” Because I’ve found out why.
Too bad teachers have to be professional students.

People never believe me when I say that I smoked, but was never addicted. I think people have too many prejudices about smoking, but what smokers need is understanding.
My wife had two heart attacks, both when she was much younger than would be normally expected. While she was a smoker, the Doctor’s agreed that it probably wasn’t the biggest contributor. Unfortunately, they really don’t know why she had the attacks, but she had to quit smoking, and I stopped smoking as well.
I think people make too big a deal about how hard it is to quit, and that leaves smokers feeling like they have to have a ton of willpower. You don’t, you just have to decide to stop.
Here’s a trick that can help. Look into the eyes of a loved one, and think about how hard it would be to see them dead. Then turn it around, and think about how they would feel if you were to die because of your smoking.
Then stop smoking.
