Well since my last entry I’ve more than doubled my line-item profits from freelancing. With more than $20K coming to me in ‘06 from my mag writing, there’s NO WAY I should enter ‘07 in any kind of debt. And yet… that just seems too easy. For some reason I don’t trust the figures. I managed to find a well-paying contract gig after getting laid off from my job – but that gig is going to be up soon, and as of now I don’t know what the next one will be. I could see that chewing away a bunch of this anti-debt money. Or god knows what other kinds of contingencies… Murphy’s Law, shit happens, who knows?

But I guess I should take some satisfaction in knowing that, at least on paper in spreadsheet form, I’ve achieved my goal. Here’s hoping reality will follow suit.

I just hit a major milestone in my freelancing life—according to my trusty invoice spreadsheet, I have more than 10 grand in freelance income on the books for 2006. If I hadn’t just been laid off from my day job, I’d be ecstatic! Unfortunately, I’ll now have to LIVE off that extra money instead of use it to kill off my debt. Oh well. Onward and upward.

Those things were hanging over my head (figuratively) for months and now they’re finally hanging over my head (literally). Major load off my mind—and desk.
