I have spent the past few months really purging things and it has been difficult, but the end result is so nice because I think my mind is clearer as a result without all the noise and distractions from so much stuff.
I think I need to live by a rule that new material things should not be brought home unless atleast one thing is discarded because it just becomes too much to manage.
I gave 8 bags of clothes to the goodwill, and have set aside about 5 bags of toys and clothes for friends with children. I am going to try and be more ruthless about the things that I throw out but it is hard to let some things go, especially when you buy something and didn’t really wear it much, or paid a lot for it, or it was a gift, or something. In the end, I live in a small flat and it is too difficult to have it jampacked with stuff.
I don’t think you are ever really done getting organized but I feel that I have completed the huge hurdle of finally putting in systems to make things easier to manage, and need to just remember to take the time to keep them organized so that it is easier to keep up. My cellar, bedroom, paperwork, kitchen, son’s room, and the rest of house is in order, and it feels great! I am hoping to take a look at the few piles of things left lying around and figure out how to get them organized too, but I am also very happy with how things are at this point.
I hope that I am still feeling organized a year from now. The next big task to manage is my photos…but that is under a different task :-)
