How I did it: This is more of a guide of how to apply for graduate school, since I start in a few months. I wanted to start right after graduate from college, originally, but I decided to wait a year because I wanted to see where a relationship was going and my initial GRE scores were terrible. So, I took a year off to work, and I think it was the best thing I could have done. I got to take the entire application process at a much more leisurely pace, a… Read how I did it…
How I did it: It took me over 9 years to find them all! It helped that I had a collector's display map that let me know which ones to expect at what times, and let me know which I had missed. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I picked out my favorite photos and uploaded them to Walmart.com. I ordered several 8x10s (which were only about $3 each), got some nice frames from IKEA, put them together, and bam - my photos are art! They actually look SO good! Read how I did it…

By living frugally I managed to save up quite a bit over the past year, but now that I’m starting graduate school I’m back to relying almost completely upon my mom. The teaching position will pay enough to cover my rent and transportation, but mom will still be picking up the rear on things like food, airfare, and insurance. I think it will be worth it in the long run, when I can apply for really well-paid jobs after I get my master’s!
I graduated with about $10,000 in subsidized loans (not bad at all!) Since one had a 6% interest rate, my mom helped me pay that one off before it began to accrue interest, and I’ve been paying off two others at 4% (variable) interest for the past year at about $100/month . . . very reasonable! Now I have another $2,000 loan coming due next month at 5% interest, so I’m using the money I’ve saved to pay it off. $1K this month… then $1K next month (when I get paid again!)
Thank goodness I decided to attend a graduate school offering me a free ride! Now I can put the last $5,000 in forbearance until I graduate . . . Just think, I’ll have a master’s degree with only $5,000 to pay off. Not too shabby!
