sometimes this gets really hard…like why is the skin growing back so dry?? Then I think of this message board and how I’d hate to have to write that I started biting and picking again.
zoeingly doesn't have anything on their life list yet…
How I did it: I am 25 years old and have been biting and picking at my fingers since I was 5. I didn't know that anyone else did this until I googled it. It's a terrible and shameful habit that feels like you can't control it. I got really really good at trying to hide it.I made a decision to quit and it was very hard at first but got easier when I saw my beautiful skin growing back. This experience has changed my life and I wish I had done it a long time ago! Read how I did it…
when out with friends keep your hands above the table!! I used to pick at mine beneath the table.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!! IF I CAN DO IT SO CAN YOU!!!
I just want everyone to know that they aren’t alone and we can quit this!! It’s a real disorder called dermatillomania. Believe me I know the horrible bloody painful shame of this.
ADVICE FROM ME:
sit on your hands while watching TV and movies.
LOTION, LOTION, AND MORE LOTION.
give yourself a manicure.
the first 3 or 4 days is the hardest but once you see the results it gets easier.
DO NOT PICK AT THE DRY SKIN THAT GROWS BACK!! PUT LOTION ON IT.
if a piece of skin is really hanging and bothering you, just cut it with tiny nail scissors. DO NOT Bite it or pick it off.
Realize that we might have to make a conscious effort not to bite or pick for the rest of our lives.
