Answers:
It’s based on the super-secret cheer algorithm, which only the Robots (the creators of this site) know. They do expire according to the formula. And, there are 5 cheers you are issued a day to start out with. I’ve been on this site for over 2 years and still haven’t really understood it. But, I’m not nearly as curious as I once was, either. Just enjoy them is my advice. :)

There are so many great people and good ideas I want to cheer on – I’ve got to find that maximum time of day so I can use as many as possible!
I saw one vanish around 6AM today, I think. Going to have to make a graph. That’s my favorite thing, graphs (things get a little dull here in the gazebo factory).

Excellent question!! I have wondered that myself…
I’ve sometimes checked very quickly that I have accumulated 8 or 9 cheers. So I come back later more relaxed to cheer away, and see that they’re down to 5 or 6 :S

Apparently, it has something to do with asking questions about cheers, since I’ve not received one bestowable-cheer since I asked! Like an arctic fox who makes gazebos is a challenge to the Robots??

I find that if I use all my cheers that sometimes I don’t get anymore to use for another 24 hours. Right now, I’m still trying to figure out why I get 5 to 8 a day on 43 things and twice that many on 43 Places during that same time frame on any given day. I spend quite a bit more time on 43things than any of the other connected sites.
