A question about this goal: If I drink alot of Vitamin water is that as healthy as drinking regular water? What do you guys think?.. August 27th, 2007 11:48

Answers:

Vitamin Water (the brand) is made with high fructose corn syrup. “Crystalline fructose” is what is listed on the label.

Check the serving size – 1 bottle is not 1 serving, its 2.5 servings. The sugar in 1 bottle of Vitamin Water is equivilant to a Coke.

As already mentioned, you have to watch out for other additives, like high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). HFCS adds calories without making you feel full (however, the water will help you feel full). Plus, it’s probably not healthy.

Additionally, water with extra sodium may actually make you THIRSTIER. It’s all about osmoregulation. Pure water (no salt) will make you less thirsty as it tilts the salt-water balance in your body toward the water side. Saltwater does the opposite; the salt in the water actually pulls water OUT of your cells. This is why drinking seawater at the beach will actually DEhydrate you. Gatorade (and similar) are designed as close to the nominal human salt-water balance. This lets them replenish your liquids in such a way as to always GRADUALLY bring you back to the correct salt-water balance. This is also why if you’re REALLY dehydrated, you need PURE water and not Gatorade.

Some drink manufacturers use this salt-water balance stuff to their advantage. Drinks can be designed to actually make you thirstier, which makes you want to drink even more of the drink.

So, I think you should be skeptical of vitamin water drinks. Just drink water (if you want to be green, drink water out of a tap) and take a multivitamin in the morning. If you’d like, add fruits and vegetables to your daily diet—they’ll give you vitamins and antioxidants and other nutrients throughout the day.

If you need to wake up, drink black (or skinny/skim) coffee. In fact, drinking tea throughout the day is a great idea.

well its better to just like water instead. like get ur nutritiants another way cuz ya vitamin water has a lot of sugar wich is a no bueno

yu got juicy tits

Nothing is better than a big glass of regular water. You can eat a green apple right before or after the water and you will see the kilos (we have the metric system in Greece :)) dropping one after the other. Good luck!!

zhahira is spending the day with my family!

Also beware of drinking Gatorade/Powerade drinks. They’re full of extra calories and things that athletes need for energy in a game, but you don’t want since you’re just trying to shed some pounds!

20oz of Vitamin Water has 125 calories. A 20oz Coca-Cola has 240. People really don’t understand how many calories they consume in liquid form.

If you’re looking for some flavor, try Crystal Lite. They have these great on-the-go mixes for water bottles.

Also, Gatorade has a new low-calorie drink called G2. You might want to look into it.

Of course it goes without saying that water is the healthiest thing to drink of all. You could always try squeezing in some fresh lemon juice. It adds a negligible amount of calories.

Some water brand (I think it’s Dasani?) has an “Enhanced Water” thing. Basically it’s vitamin water, flavoured, tastes better than regular water…with no calories, because it’s flavoured with Splenda. Might be a good alternative.

Just drink good old water. Sure, vitamin water may have less calories than soda or gatorade, but it sure doesn’t have less calories than water. Nothing does.

Morgan is human after all.

if you think any single drink can substitute water, you’re screwed. water is the best thing you can put in your body.

1 20oz vitamin water contains roughly half the calories and half the sugar as 1 20oz Coke. So to say they are equivalent is utterly false.
