Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

A question about this goal: I'm doing some recon work for an impending cheerbombing. Does anyone know (or could anyone find out) what the single day cheerbombing record is (in terms of most cheers recieved by one person in one day). What's the most you've heard of? September 25th, 2007 08:36

Not sure. I had one day where I gave and received 714 cheers back when I was in my quest to hit 10,000 cheers given. That’s the most I’ve ever done in one day. I don’t believe there is a set limit.

Ann

WOW, thats really incredible!!! Do you know how many you actually recieved on that day?

Todd Schoonover is going undercover

It would’ve been 709, five less than I gave since we get a base five cheers a day to give out.

Todd, did it actually say 714 to give away, or did you count that many in total that day?

Todd Schoonover is going undercover

That was my count during a 24 hour period. The most I’ve ever logged in and had to give at a single time was 98 cheers. I just know how to work the cheer system with some of the other top cheerers so that we can turn our cheers back on during cheer wars.

::gasp::

It took me at least six months to get there!! LOL

Wow, 714 cheers in one day… the cheer goblin must really love you ;)

Cheer wars helped that day. Between Cathibeth, Des, and Deni H, I was bouncing cheers back and forth for two to three hours. You just have to make sure you post an entry or comment every so often so your cheers don’t turn off.

Des is still alive but has no joy to share

I think it would be fun to schedule a multiperson cheer war day. (Then again, I’m nuts.)

It could be fun, though they can also be frustrating. Maybe that could be part of the third annual Halloween party.

Des is still alive but has no joy to share

I’m not sure I could keep up with the party thread and a cheer war at the same time!

Somehow, I always thought that posting an entry or comment while having available cheers was the ultimate risk: like pushing the cheers off a plank to be swallowed by the evil cheer goblin!!

That’s why I always cheer away and then write comments. Hmmm, that’s probably why I have such a cheer deficit and am way behind in comments!! :P

Can cheers ‘turn off’?

I’ve had a few disappear on me one day…

I’ll try to answer both Ann and Elusive’s questions here:

Ann: AFAIK, the most cheers anyone ever had in one shot was about 300. septembertwentyseven had that many when there was a goal of “cheer septembertwentyseven on Sept.27th.” Julie Jordan Scott had a gazillion cheers during the goal of “Cheerbomb Julie Jordan Scott so she can get her 75,000th cheer”, (which incidentally was a goal I initiated.) She had tons of them to give away at one point, but I think septembertwentyseven has the all-time record, if not then it’s JJS , AFAIK anyway.

Elusive; the cheers: If you don’t use them, you lose them!

75,000th? When did Julie pass me? Just kidding. I was on that goal and know you just added an extra zero.

Yes, cheers turn off, but you can turn them back on.

The way it works is that you are given your cheers to give out every 12 hours whether you’re online or not. You have 24 hours to give away earned cheers (cheers you get when someone cheers you).

You can turn your cheers back on by adding things or entries or completing things on your list. This doesn’t give you your earned cheers but if someone cheers you after you’ve done this, you usually will get that cheer immediately to give back out.

Hope this helps.

Wow things are starting to make sense even though i’ve been on this site for over a year :)

Thank you so much it makes things a lot clearer :)
