grow my hair long
A question about this goal: Can I darken my hair with coffee or black tea? If so, which method did you use? And is this harmful to your hair? –Note: I already have dark hair but I would like to darken it more without dying it further. 9 months ago

Answers:

I really don’t know because I have never dyed my hair, especially when it was long. I do know that coffee doesn’t stain, though, so tea would be a better bet. What does this have to do with growing your hair long?

I really want to grow my hair longer but I continually seem to fall back in the habit of dying it which always leads to split ends causing me to constantly cut my hair. I wanted to find a way to darken my hair without damaging it so it would grow healthier and longer.

you can use black hina. it wil do..
you can get it any indian grocery store in your city.

If you can get semi-permanent dyes these fade gradually (over 6 months) and cause less harm as they don’t give that plasticky feel you can get if you dye your hair dark with permanent. (Also you do’t get the same kind of roots, also you don’t get bored of the colour in the same way as it changes as it fades, then you can do it again, or try a new one.)

Depends what colour you’re going from and to but if you choose ones designed to cover grey you can use them on blonde downwards with no problem – I went from blond to dark brown almost black with a semi-permanent- read the label though as if they’re only designed for already dark hair the brown will have too much of a green base. Choose one that can cover grey and you’re safe.

Also those shampoos that enhance the colour can make it a little darker and more glossy without dying it.

But if you’re always dying it this might be your state of mind of being bored with your hair and trying to do sth about it, more than the colour itself being so important (well that’s what happened to me, I used to dye it all the time) (unless it’s b/c you want a particular look like goth or something). If it’s the case that you just get bored with it, can you try find a different aspect of it to focus on e.g. use colour preserving glazes (John Frieda does them) which make it shiny but don’t actually dye it, there are dark ones and also clear ones. Or do it in different styles for variety.

Another thing you could try (which I did, and it worked) is make a firm vow not to dye it again until it is a certain length. That way you can look forward to dying it but not actually do it, and you may find by the time it gets that length the urge to dye it has passed.

btw I’ve not heard of using coffee or tea but I wouldn’t try it – sounds like you might be wanting to experiment with stuff, which is cool, but that might end up just drying it out as well.

Anyway hope that helps! : )

I haven’t tried it but on LongHairCommunity forum they use indigo (buy online) to darken hair. I think they mix it with henna.

I agree use Henna, you can get different colours but it doesnt dry out your hair and actually can improve th condition but it does stink when you first use it!

I have never dyed my hair but have heard too, that Henna is safe to use. When you dye you hair just cut off the ends to avoid split ends. Normal hair growth is like 1/2 per month or 6” a year.

Keep it straight because I have heard from other women on 43 things that braiding or even putting your hair in a pony tail can cause split ends, which I can’t believe is true.

Brushing your hair frequently and gentle washing will help to clean your scalp and promote hair growth, plus use a detangler whenever you wash it so brushing your long hair is easier and won’t snag.
