Practice Yoga
A question about this goal: Im planning on registering to a Yoga class at my university, but its 50 minutes, twice a week. I read a lot of comments saying that you feel very sore after a yoga session. is twice a week too much? January 7th, 2010 17:48

Answers:

Nah, I don’t think so. The first Yoga classes I took were three times a week for 50 minutes. And my teacher said she wished the sessions were longer. I also did a dance class right after that – Jazz. Yoga got me nice and limber before dance class, so it was worth it. I don’t think it should be too much.

Twice a week is not too much at all. Also, I personally have NEVER been sore after a yoga session. Maybe I am younger or more flexible than some people you’ve spoken with, but you can push yourself as much or as little as you feel is right for you.

Bab has a great routine! Doing yoga and then dancing is a great way to stretch out!

Twice a week for 50 minutes is perfect for beginners. I personally practice yoga everyday (I am at an advanced level) but even when you first start out yoga you should not feel any pain. Yoga is supposed to be relaxing and helps calm the mind as well as the body. Hope this helps : )

It also depends on how hard you push yourself. If a pose feels too intense, then just ease up or come out of it. Your body will definitely get used to it. A lot of instructors will give some easier variations, too, if your finding some to be too trying. 50 minutes is a good length, and soon you’ll be wishing it was longer! Have fun!

twice a week should be fine. When i first started doing yoga my classes were an hour and forty-five minutes. most places don’t teach classes that are that long anymore, and they unfortunately sacrifice two very important aspects of yoga to achieve a shorter class – breathing, meditation and final relaxation.

I am almost 40 and do yoga just about every day (if I can’t get a whole session in, I’ll at least practice for 15 or 20 minutes). yoga helps the mind and body feel good.

the teacher should help you to feel comfortable working with where you are at physically. Yoga shouldn’t be painful. You may feel your muscles afterward, or the next day – may even feel the urge to stretch, but it shouldn’t be painful at all. If anything, you may decide you want to do yoga MORE than twice a week. :)

reaand is trying to learn...

no, it´s not too much…
i was practicing it every morning (before breakfast) for 20 minutes…

It’s surely not too much.
I have also never been sore after a yoga session, excluding the times when I had pushed too much – be gentle to yourself and listen to your body and it will be refreshing and you will feel less tired after a session.
I have practiced yoga for a couple of years in the evening, twice a week, for 90 minute each session, including the relaxation and meditation time.
I say just go ahead !

goodbyeclarity feel what it's like to be new.

Nope. I like doing it three times a week. Just make sure you don’t push yourself too hard. Take it pretty easy your first week. You can slowly push yourslef further from there. Just remember that yoga isn’t a competition! :)
