If the craving or strong urge is too much, I try to eat a little bit of something healthier and preferably low in calories. some things i like that are low in calories- sugar free jello 10 cal, sugar free popsicle 15 cal, a wedge of lite Laughing Cow cheese 35 cal, a cup of broth made with a boilloin cube 5 cal, plain okra, blueberries, a boiled egg white 17 cal, an olive 3 cal, a werther’s original sugar free hard candy 8 cal, any flavor diet soda or drink 0 cal, hot or cold tea with sugar substitute 0 cal. or I drink a couple glasses of champagne b/c it takes away my cravings and I think it’s about 90 cal a glass. good luck!
I have found that having a cup of coffee with Splenda will shut down my urge to binge. The trick is getting the coffee made before I totally destroy my diet. Of course you have to avoid putting in calories from sugar, flavored syrups and creamers.Your mileage may vary.
Also, getting out of the house and away from food doing something that holds my attention helps. If I am busy, I can go all day without eating.
Well, I like a gradual approach. Don’t try to quit what you are doing completely, just try to cut back. If you are having dessert all the time and that is what you want to stop, either have smaller and smaller desserts, or only have them on the weekends, or change your desserts to something else (apple, dried fruit – something high in fiber would be a good choice). Substitution works well, but only if it is something you also like. Chocolate chips are good to satisfy a chocolate craving but not blow your diet, for example. Also, look at where there are LARGE quantities of excess first and then start shaving away at the little things. I was eating double everything – seconds at every meal. That was an easy one to stop, because I just didn’t go back for more.
There are times you need to just get past an urge. I like having go to foods. Strawberries worked for me. (10 calories each.) Make sure to take out just what you intend to eat and put the container away. There is a bit of re-programming that needs done. Go slow. If you grab anything, let it be a glass of water. Make sure when you eat that the food tastes good and you take the time to enjoy it.
All the best.
You’ll get there.
keep junk food out of your house, just dont buy it, if you have no food, you won’t eat it, it’s that simple
Blue_Bird hopes everyone had beautiful Holiday
I would try to do something else, something nice but not eat at that moment….have a bath or shower, watch something I enjoy on TV/DVD, walk on the beach, etc
Maybe to keep a list of the things you enjoy more doing could help in the craving/urge moment.
