lose weight
A question about this goal: I work out about forty five minutes a day. I'm STARVING all the time. I'll be hungry an hour after I eat a meal. What can I do to satisfy my stomach until the next meal? Can I work out more than once a day? January 26th, 2011 06:37

Answers:

You can eat as much lettuce, spinach, celery, and other raw vegetables as you can stand. Even put a little light dressing on it and you’re fine. If that is not working, a small handful of nuts should do the trick (watch out for over salted ones, though because they will make you retain water among other things). They are not without calories, but they trigger the “full” response and they are good foods – a good balance of protein, fiber, and fat.

Of course, you can work out as much as you want, but 45 min a day should be plenty! If you over-do it you risk burnout. Also, if you are really working out that much, you should be able to eat a little more – and in fact, you probably should.

You could try eating more fiber, which gives you a feeling of satisfaction without putting on the weight; it also helps “clean out” your system. Fruit with the peel on, like apples or pears during this time of the year, or whole grains such as brown rice, whole wheat products, or even potatoes, but NO butter or cream (I use olive oil-good source of Omega 3 acids-and salsa instead). Oatmeal is good, but not the instant kind. Leafy green vegetables are also an excellent choice. For a quick low-calorie pick-me-up try air-popped popcorn (NO butter), or peanut butter with some fruit. Stay away from pre-packaged foods, especially those containing hydrogenated fats and high-fructose corn syrup (aka “corn sugar”).
It’s OK to work out twice a day; I usually do aerobics every day, yoga twice a week, and free weights once a week, and I get a well-rounded workout for the week.
I was able to lose about 25 lbs following Weight Watchers, however; I needed the discipline and accountability that goes with it.
Good luck!

version territory if you don't have anything nice to say, write a song

Have a healthy snack if you can’t stand the hunger. Like an apple, or some baby carrots.
Also, sometimes people think they’re hungry but they’re just thirsty, so maybe have some water and see if that’s what you really wanted.
Maybe you should have some low-cal soup with your meal (Amy’s has some great organic soups that have 70 calories for half a can!), as soup tends to fill me up, at least.

toletta is bah

Eat TONS of veggies, of all sorts, raw, cooked, pureed in soup, however you like them. Use herbs & spices or lemon juice or vinegar to season them, skip the oil/butter or use very small quantities. They will fill you up and improve your health!

Make sure that your meals are balanced, ie that you’re not eating foods that will trigger a hunger reaction after a short while, such as refined sugar and carbs. My suggestion is to eat whole meals including vegetables, wholegrain if possibile, beans and legumes and also include some good fats (olive oil, nuts, etc).

Are you eating enough? Eating too little will NOT make you thin in the long run, it will only make you feel starved and trigger binges. Eat properly, since you’re working out so much.

Drink lots of plain water, away from meals. If you get sick of water, try herbal teas or non-caffeinated teas such as japanese bancha or kukicha tea. They will make your tummy feel full and nice, and hydrate you and help your body detox, which is always good when shedding the fat.

Let us know how it’s going!!

One more thing: lots of water!

Emmettrule he wouldnt go away

you can work out more then one time a day. the best thing is when you just eat a meal try to do something to keep your maind frocuse on what you are doing. i lost weight my walking, eatting and read, write, go with friend and it get your maind from wanting to eat. the other reason is that you are bored and eatting is what we go to when we are bored. so try to do other thing.

Screw veggies. The answer is protein protein protein. I can eat an entire head of lettuce and accompanying veggies in a salad and be hungry 30 minutes later. I’d rather eat a hard-boiled egg, or a rolled up piece of lunch-meat. That will keep me from being hungry much, much longer. I am a firm believer in not being hungry. I’d rather be fat, frankly.

You can work out more than once a day but you need to balance your food intake with the calories you’re burning. Over-working but under-eating is will harm your body.

I recommend Weight Watchers (if you can swing it).

you should not be starving an hour after meal. there’s something wrong with what / how much you eat. if you are working out every day, you need extra energy from protein. I suggest you visit http://jonbenson.com/ and subscribe to his newsletter. its for free and he explains how to eat when working out the best way imo.

take care,
Petra

Thank you all. I think that may be the problem. I eat a ton of fruit, but not enough vegetables. I’ll take this all into account. =]

stop working out so much, it will make you hungrier, i found that it’s easier to lose weight by eating less and no it won’t slow down your metabolism or any other marketing nonsense. I’ve got a masters in nutrition and exercise physiology and I’ve lost 100 lbs and kept it off. Weight Train, cardio is worthless for weight loss. Losing weight is 100% diet. Cut as many calories a day as you want. Sometimes I fast for 40hrs, no damage done. I just had my body fat tested, 7.8%, and I didn’t lose any muscle as I dieted down.

GrayPyre is trying really hard.

First make sure it’s HUNGER not thirst, it’s supprizing how often we can confuse the two. Drink water when you are thirsty as well, soda is worthless and does only negatives for you and most juices and sports drinks are more sugar than anything useful.
Are you sure you aren’t bored and have developed a pattern of eating as something to do? That was something I did without realizing it. When I want food I stop and think about why before I get anything. I was very suprized when I figured out how often I reached for food when what I really needed was emotional or just some mental stimulation.
I used the eat clean diet as a starting platform for a new way of eating I like it because it is simple and adjustable as well as easy to incorporate with a family. I don’t have to think about it i make the weeks menu, i cook have snacks even go out and have deserts. No more torturing myself about food. I could not do WW because of all of the counting and measuring, it was very difficult to cook at home and it had me thinking about food 24/7.
I agree to more fiber, it’s filling.
Eat more protein. Your muscles need protein within 30 minutes of exertion to recover.
Also, get rid of as much processed food as posible, the chemical additives wreak havoc on your entire body.
What time do you work out? Do you eat beforehand?
It’s slot to think about and can be overwhelming so try to take it one step at a time and if you have more questions don’t hesitate to ask!
