As long or as short as you want. Personally I consider it a driveabout if you do not spend at least one night somewhere else, but thats just a more specific designation, its still a road trip.

if u go for a day, thats a day trip- if u spend the nite, thats a lil road trip, if u leave for a couple weeks, thats a great road trip, if u go for longer, it stands a chance of being an epic road trip…...

It’s your road trip, so whatever you want or can do counts. I usually think of it as a day trip if it’s not an overnighter. For me a road trip involves traveling far enough that I’d need to get a hotel room, camp, or sleep in the car at some point.

For me any trip by car that is done for fun and lasts more than a day is a road trip.
