PhD
A question about this goal: What are the pros and cons of a phD? (to know if I should go for it or not) August 19th, 2011 16:24

Hello MissYassou,
I guess the first question is, what do you want the PhD for? I studied math education – so there was a job market for me, and I was picked up for work before I finished. Some PhDs don’t get jobs in their discipline. If you are passionate about your subject and just love, adore studying it, then the work motivator may not be so important for you.
I think loving studying, being prepared to be flexible in your thinking, and being a self-motivated person are pretty important, but maybe if you’re a scientist in a team those things wouldn’t be so important.
What do you want to study?

Thanks niq
Well I have an engineer degree in computer science, I work as a software developer in R&D team, I got a promotion and I’m soon going to be the team leader and project manager of the most important project of the company. It sounds great eventhough I had never thought that I was going to follow this path, I have always thought that I’ll go for a phD for some unknown reason. I feel that I’m not using the best of my skills at work, you know you do what you’re asked for, nothing less and nothing more … it’s annoying sometimes, so I don’t know if getting a phD is what suits me best.
