In the second week of my trip to Iceland, my family and I drove up to the Snaefells glacier which rests over top of an old dormant volcano. This is the volcano that Jules Verne wrote about in his book, Journey to the Centre of the Earth. It was extremely cold and windy, but the view was fantastic. We could see all the way out to the north Atlantic, deep blue and frothy against the cliffs.

My sister hurt her foot running a few days before we came to Iceland, so we decided not to hike very far, so although I suppose our visit here counts, I would like to come back with some crampons and hike to the summit of Scartaris, one of the two extremely vertical peaks rising into the sky.
