I thought the day would never come, but sure enough, they put me on the wing, popped me the ball and with a few short steps I had accomplished the least climactic scoring ever. So, getting a try as a back was a big let-down, because I literally did no work.
Nonetheless, it was awesome to finally score some points in a tourney! 4 weeks ago

... but I had a meeting and negotiated a 20-30% raise. Not finalized yet, but at least I had the meeting.
I should hear about it on Monday, when the admin people get back from vacation. If they don’t give me at least $48k, I’m looking for a new job. Most people with my degrees, publications and years experience get at least 60k in the city. 2 months ago

Today could be a travel-dedicated day.
Print maps, print prices for hostels and rental cars.
Iceland first, then Costa Rica. And if that awful sister of mine ever responds to emails, Spain + Guatemala. 3 months ago

One screw has magically disappeared in the move and we’ve been unable to replace it when guessing its size at the hardware store. We’ve accumulated a stash of screws very close to the proper size, so, for now the racks remain half assembled.
Of course, the wise thing to do would be carry the proper screw around and match it at the store, but this always slips my mind when I’m at home. 3 months ago

I am not eager to play. I’m kind of at odds with the captain now because I’ve missed practice for a month. My heart’s just not in it anymore. 3 months ago

There’s only one school that I have a shot at. Interviewed in September, but I could just be strung along for what’s known as a silent rejection.

Looking at even the “cheapest” hiking/adventure tours, per person they cost at least $300!! That is highway robbery. I’ve done my own hiking trips all over the US before (Yellowstone, Tetons, Death Valley, Adirondaks, Acadia, Catskills, the Badlands, etc etc etc) and I have confidence in my map reading capabilities such that I can pick my own route or take a trail and have just as much fun as I would with someone leading the way. Sure, when you pay, you get a hiker experienced in identifying the native flora and fauna, but for $300, I would gladly do more research myself beforehand.
So, we are definitely renting a car and doing self-guided tours of the south coast. Amazon Prime streams about a dozen low-quality travel docs on Iceland and I spent 2 hours watching them last night.
What I’ve gathered: lots of waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, and most importantly- PUFFINS!!! When I was in Scotland last year, I wanted to see puffins, but it rained too much. Maybe this time… 3 months ago

So, my sister cancelled on me today. We were supposed to meet and look at expenses and exchange ideas, but she took the day off. I couldn’t be more annoyed with her. I printed a bunch of stuff and got prices for all of my ideas, now I feel like tossing it. 3 months ago

1. Look into feasibility of doing the Sarria to Santiago de Compostela: four or five days.
2. When is cousin’s wedding?
3. how to get to Sarria from valencia
4. how to get back to Valencia
5. Is there room to fit a pit stop in barcelona
Despite being spanish, I really don’t want to go to spain again.
So, I’ll also put together game plan for Guatemala. 3 months ago

I work very hard, and am grossly underpaid. I do the job of 2 lab managers, (literally for 2 PIs), work overtime with no pay, and have a graduate degree, for under $40k. So, I’m going to have to start shifting my efforts elsewhere- to both enrich my life culturally and to focus on career choices.
21 days makes it a habit and = accomplished…
So, April 5th. 3 months ago

From May 25-June 2, I’ll be in Iceland.
So far, I have picked a few places-
1.Þingvellir national park (31 miles- 1 hourish from Reykjavik) on the ridge between the two tectonic plates
2. Vik- small fishing town in south
3.Vatnajökull national park
I’m debating on whether to do the golden circle or try to cross the country, because I want to see the south east and Vatnajökull. 3 months ago
