How I did it: In some states, such as Florida, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation offers weekend courses in Motorcycle use and safety. You sign up by phone or online and pre-pay about $300 via credit card to partake in a 3-day Motorcycle Safety course. First you meet in a classroom setting for about 5 hours where you watch instructional videos and learn basics from a teacher orally and from a booklet. After that (normally the next day) you meet in a practical environment where EACH student is provided with an actual Motorcycle to learn on. There are, of course, instructors to guide you and help you implement what was learned in the classroom and put it to actual use on a REAL Motorcycle. Prior motorcycle experience is not required or needed at all, they basically teach you exactly how to use and ride a motorcycle and leave nothing out. For the next 2 days you learn a plethora of techniques and rules of riding while getting to perform them on the spot until you get it right! At the very end of the last day each student individually takes an official Motorcycle Road test from a certified tester and you either pass or fail, but they teach you everything you need to know to pass without a doubt. If you pass they provide you with a small card that you must bring to the DMV where they then put the 'M' on your license officially.
