Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I like unique. I like different. I don’t like when someone tries to be different for the sake of being different. I don’t like when people do what others do, and have done, without question or without a look inside themselves as to how THEY would do a thing whether its the way you cook chicken or who you call your God. I like when someone is themselves fully and if that happens to be different, great. If it happens to be what millions do or have done, great. Why? Because THAT is how I view me. I am all me all the way all the time. And its different as fuck. It’s dangerous and it’s real. It’s what makes me look forward to tomorrow. It’s what keeps me alive. And, it’s probably what will kill me. I will live and die being me. Not die trying to be something, someone or some place. I will die exactly who I have built myself into for the reasons why I have built that man.

Because it’s the friend that I know better than anything else in my 30 years. I won’t go into a long story about my life in this post, but I will say that I have lost everything that you currently have. I have lost everything you do not realize that you have. I have lost things that I never even had a chance to find or have because they were taken from me by others. I started with everything and had it all taken away before I could count to 100. Then when I was old enough to count to 100 I could count 100 nights of fear.

*(And this is not about what I have “gained” in this process of life)

These are things I cannot change now. These are things I could not change then. These are things I would do anything to have occurred differently. I am who I am right now because of the sum results of those that bore me and raised me and my choices after the age of reason.

So, being sad (at times) is one of my best friends because I know this well and it visits me like a comforter here and there and evermore. 9 months ago

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

One of the absolute greatest bands ever coupled with the incredible voice of Steve Perry or the new lead singer. I saw Journey in concert last year and it was so surreal. I was taken back like “is this really happening? these amazing songs we have all heard at kareoke and belted out in our living rooms with friends, am I really finally catching the real deal live?” It was incredible. 3. Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
