and it’s a beautiful day.

I think sometimes it is necessary to struggle to be able to appreciate what it feels like when things start coming together. At this point in my life, I know what I want and where I want to be. I’m happy that I’m on the track to getting there and am enjoying the journey.

I like both of my jobs—both working at the science museum and the preserve’s nature programs. I enjoy my co-workers; school is falling into place; I might get a permanent job in my field by December—long before I graduate.

I have some leads for an apartment in a neighborhood I’d love to live in, and enough money to pick a place I like and not merely a place I can afford. I have options.

Just a few more months staying with my family, and things aren’t so bad here, either. I have my windows open, looking out through leafy branches, birdsong pouring in. It feels like living inside a treehouse.

who is retiring in 15 days (she’s counting) told me I have “good knowledge” after observing a hike I guided. It was an unprovoked and welcomed compliment. She also encouraged me to pay attention to the postings for permanent positions coming up as she—and other older naturalists—retire. “We need new blood! We need bright new young people!”

it isn’t allergies at this point—the sinus pressure is still there, but now it seems like I’ve got some kind of bronchial infection. :(

One of the kids I hiked with the other day had allergies so bad that his eyelids became so swollen that they started turning INSIDE OUT! WTF?!

The tree pollen around here has been so heavy that people’s cars look like they’ve been through a dust bowl. I can’t breathe through my nose, and I’m stuffed up to the point that my head feels like it’s swimming—sinuses, ears, throat, all OUCH!

The “local honey” antidote isn’t gonna touch this disaster—what do you guys recommend for BAD seasonal allergies?

I tumbled all the wrinkly clothes, washed all the dirty clothes, folded them, hung them up, put them all away. I filled two garbage bags full of clothes to be donated. I reorganized the closet.

I separated all the recycling, cleared all the papers off BOTH desks (and out from the disorganized organizer), put all the hair things in the hair-things-basket, put all the music things in a music basket, put all the books on the shelves, put all the important mail in the important-mail-basket, fluffed the pillows, made the bed, and got in the bed.

My space is welcoming again. One of the challenges I know I’ll face in the future is the temptation to put EVERYTHING ELSE on hold until I’m on the other end of a difficult period; it just means that I extend the “difficult period” beyond the duration of whatever perceived crisis because there are all of these THINGS I’ve been neglecting that are in the way of just getting on with life.

At least, this time, I’ve hit the reset button. Things are back in order, my hectic schedule is winding down, and the next phase is kicking in.

I hope it doesn't seem like I'm just being contrary,

I sleep in either compression sports bras (no underwires) or tanks with built-in shelf-bras. It’s no fun rollin’ over on those puppies otherwise.

I put my two-weeks in at the book store last week, and in the meantime I’m working three jobs. I’m glad the semester is over, but I haven’t had a break since—my new job literally started as soon as I drove over from my last final, and I’ve put in nearly 100 hours since then (last Thursday). I’m exhausted and grateful that I have tomorrow off so that I can clean up, get organized, and stave off the creeping apathy that comes with being over-tired.

I’m all for being nekkid, but being braless for extended periods is the OPPOSITE of comfortable when you’re generously endowed. I’m a double-d, and it’s like having an extra pair of limbs—totally useless, highly sensitive limbs. Eff that.

I’ve worked every single day! Friday and Saturday were 12 & 13 hour days respectively, though the rest hasn’t been as bad.

Anyway, once that all settles down I’m gonna start on my “wait-listed” to-do list. I’m really psyched to get into some sewing projects, but I have a LOT of cleaning/tidying to do beforehand.

doesn’t damage relationships that are really about heart. I have a handful of close friends that I rarely get to see because of moves—when someone is really a part of you, you pick up where you left off.

The new job is confirmed, and I was given the “ok” by a supervisor at the science museum to change my availability. “Perfect timing,” she said—almost everybody else has open availability once the semester ends.
