Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

D. W.Cash and what you carry with you

I’ve found that carrying cash realllly helps with this. That also means that I leave my credit cards at home. I know that means I don’t have an unlimited amount of money in an emergency, but I do still carry my debit card, which has enough on it. I’ve also found that only carrying the amount of money I’ll need for the day is helpful. If all I’m doing is going to work and then home I won’t carry any cash, which means I can’t just stop at dunks to get coffee.

I feel like this is working really well so far. We’ll see how it holds up over time. 3 years ago

D. W.Flossing

Pretty much the only time I don’t floss at night now is when I’m sick or drunk, so I’m marking this as complete! 3 years ago

D. W.My First Book

was actually “Who You Know” by Theresa Allen (I think that’s her name? I forget, but it started with an A).

Now I’m working on People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. It’s about a librarian so I love it already. Plus I understand a majority of the jargon which makes me feel smart. 3 years ago

D. W.Untitled

I got rid of some more clothes and a bunch of my books. I really feel like I’m ALMOST there. I think once I’ve moved into my own place and completely organized all my belongings I’ll be able to check this off as complete. Here’s hoping this will be done mid-September. 3 years ago

D. W.Untitled

Just passed the $500 mark for my savings account. I really want to save up 3 months’ salary for emergencies. Slowly but surely. 3 years ago

D. W.Untitled

This means saving up for things before buying them instead of using credit. Credit cards need to be reserved for monthly recurring bills (this way I’ll still get SOME rewards points) which I will pay off immediately (at least, this is the hope).

I feel better about buying something when I’ve saved up for it anyway. I’m currently trying to save up for a bunch of kitchen stuff for my new apartment. I have a few months and hopefully I’ll get a pretty decent discount through work.’

I’m going to start working on this goal by trying to use cash only. Going to try to go to the ATM this morning before work. 3 years ago

I have a job right now…and I feel secure in it. But I really want a library job again. So I’m going to start looking/applying more often. And keep my fingers crossed. 3 years ago
