I’m still playing, “Ring of Fire,” a lot…but I’m getting better at, “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” Need to improve on switching chords more gracefully. 1 week ago

We recently got a second dog, finally. We had been waiting for a little bit after our other little girl dog died. We also moved recently, and we’re within walking distance of a park, so we take both of our dogs to the park most days. We have skipped a couple of times though, so I am trying to eliminate the exceptions. Walking every day is a good habit for everybody. 3 weeks ago
I have not been doing well at this lately. I was so good for a long time, and lately, I have been pretty impulsive. For better or for worse, I honestly don’t feel that guilty. The 2 “big money” items I have bought recently were an android tablet and a guitar. The tablet has been a great study tool, and I’m really enjoying the guitar. I don’t really spend money on “stuff” very often otherwise, and I don’t go out often, so I feel that an indulgence here and there are allowed. Nonetheless, I do need to reign it in. 2 months ago
I recently bought a guitar. I have been playing the ukulele casually for about 2 years now, but hadn’t seriously considered guitar before, because past attempts have not been fruitful. However, recently, I picked up a “little Martin” and it is smaller than a standard guitar with a good fell and a warm tone. It wasn’t very expensive, and I have been dying for new creative endeavors, but lacking inspiration. I feel in love with this guitar, so I bought it. its been 2 days, and I’ve learned some chords, I’ve played some songs, and I’ve been singing. I needed that. 2 months ago
So, I recently bought a guitar. Its a Martin LXM “Little Martin.” Its smaller than a standard guitar. Experienced guitarists tend to use it as a travel-guitar. I like it b/c it sounds good, but it is easier for me to handle. So far, so good. I didn’t think I would ever be able to play guitar, b/c in past attempts, I couldn’t physically force my left fingers to curl around the neck of the guitar in the shape of chords. once I got used to ukulele, I found that I was able to make the transition to guitar with more ease. i do not consider the uke a lesser instrument, but it is certainly improved my versatility. 2 months ago
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. I bought it specifically for school, and it has been very helpful. I take notes with the stylus, download pictures from my neuroanatomy lab and draw all over them, and access documents in class (which has been very handy). You can also do a split screen with many programs, to take notes side by side with the document. For programs that aren’t compatible with split screen, you can still “lay a note on top of it” and take notes, or do a screen shot, and then open it in photoshop (an easy to use mobile version comes with the device). Then you can draw directly on it, or do split screen. There’s still lots of things I’m learning, but I love this tablet, and I think it is a good production tool, and because of the versatility of the stylus, less of a novelty than some of the other tablets (I still like to hand write notes). I also used it to record an interview and take notes on the interview at the same time. Anyway, its a great machine, and I have not regretted the purchase. 2 months ago
I took the GRE, and got a score higher than the score I was aiming for in order to get into the Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at my school of choice. I have been by the adviser, and they advised me of the 12 hours of prerequisites I need to complete before I can start the master’s program. I will be signing up for my first prerequisite at the local community college this May. If all goes well, I will start the MOT program next fall :-) 2 years ago
Oh, structure! This has come up a lot. I remember now…I need to work on it. :P 2 months ago
I do not go to bed in time. It is kind of late right now, actually. I usually get 6-8 hours of sleep, because otherwise, there is a very likely risk of my not waking up to the alarm, no matter how important it is. A couple of weeks ago, I tried to get through a 12 hour day on 3 hours of sleep. It did not happen. Perhaps my bigger problem is not more sleep. Perhaps I really need to work on sleeping at regular intervals. I would be more efficient and well-rested. 2 months ago
I made “bed-buddies” for my sisters for Xmas. No, they are not for lonely nights. They are basically heating pads. I bought some cotton flannel with various cute designs, made a tube, stuffed it with rice, sewed both ends, added handles with velcro (to secure it in place), and voila…microwaveable heating pad. They’re pretty awesome, actually. I have had one for years, plus I made myself a new-improved one after I learned to sew.
I also made an over-sized down-stuffed pillow for the couch, with a cotton flannel cover with a cute print. (I like flannel. Its soft.) So, looks like sewing is my thing for a while. Pretty cool. Not a bad hobby for an OT, either, since I might be using my new-found talent to craft adaptive equipment. Sweet! 2 months ago
I have been refraining from buying things lately, although I admit…I bought a tablet with my tax return. It has been awesome for school. Great study-tool, great for accessing online documents during class, super lightweight. I’m not sorry. There. I said it. 2 months ago
I walked him tonight, but I’m a bad Mama. I haven’t been walking him every day. Its so cold. That’s a bad excuse. 2 months ago
Studying every day isn’t the problem. Studying WELL is the problem. I am easily distracted, I have serious time-management issues, I have difficulty studying adequately for EVERYTHING. It doesn’t help that my environment is loud. Hoping that my partner and I can afford to move this summer. 2 months ago
I was doing a great job of tracking my food for a while, but I have kinda slacked off. The good thing is, I have better eating habits than when I started, so I have still lost some weight. Slowly but surely trying to shed some of the excess weight I have packed on in the last 3 years. 2 months ago
I have made great strides this semester. There is still room for improvement. 3 months ago
I’ve been tracking my calories for about a month, and I’ve lost 4 lbs. I have also been exercising more frequently. Now that the semester has started, I have gotten the hang of when I have time to exercise. My goal is to burn 650 calories a week by way of exercise. I have performed better some weeks than others. Need to be more consistent. 3 months ago
I’ve been studying every day, but not enough. I’ve just been so tired. After thinking over my routines in the past two weeks, I realize I should be getting more done on weekend mornings. Then I can still enjoy the afternoons and evenings. If I really worked intensely on Sundays, I might even be able to take Saturday off. We’ll see about that. I have my first kinesiology exam this Tuesday, so no Saturday off this week. 3 months ago
My schedule got way out of whack during my break. I went to bed early and woke up early today, and I plan to do so over the weekend too, so I won’t be in shock when classes start. 4 months ago
I have been good about this…this week. Here’s hoping I can keep up once the semester starts. 4 months ago
This has not gone well this year. Between getting into a car accident and having a sick dog in 2012, my savings is next to nothing. I don’t have much of an income while I’m in grad school, but I’m going to try to build my savings back up slowly, then significantly faster once I graduate. I just worry about how I’m going to manage the next emergency. 4 months ago
The spring semester is getting ready to start, and I have a lot of my time mapped out for me. The challenge is managing the time that is not. 4 months ago
I’ve been a lot better about this lately, and we both appreciate it. 4 months ago
I learned to sew over Christmas break, and I was surprised at how much I enjoy it. Maybe getting over my creative block requires trying new things. :-) 4 months ago
I need to develop a more structured schedule. I work and go to class at the same time every week, but I have trouble managing the time I devote to each of my classes. I also want to make sure that I go to sleep at a relatively regular hour every night and wake up at about the same time every morning, so I can feel more rested. Lastly, between all of the tasks I am busy with in grad school, I still need to find time to participate in pleasurable and restorative activities, so I don’t lose my mind. 5 months ago
I put 50.00 in savings today. It wasn’t much, but its a start in rebuilding my savings after totaling the car. 8 months ago
Played (ukulele) and sang (badly) for some folks at a party. it was fun. :-) 8 months ago
